Title: Intematix Multiplies Phosphor Manufacturing Capabilities with China Factory Acquisition

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intematix Corp. a leading innovator of advanced materials solutions and provider of patent-backed merchant phosphor products for solid state lighting applications, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of a key manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China. The manufacturing facility and business unit, designated Intematix Suzhou Lighting Company. Ltd. (ISL), adds to Intematix’ overall phosphor manufacturing capabilities as well immediately expands its range of phosphors to include compact fluorescent (CFL) and cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) product lines in addition to its current LED offerings. This news closely follows Intematix’ recent broad-reaching silicate-based phosphor patent award announcement and further solidifies its position as a leading independent supplier to all of the newest phosphor-enabled lighting technologies. Intematix Suzhou Lighting is currently a premium supplier of CFL phosphors to the Chinese market, which today accounts for 80% of the worldwide CFL manufacturing base. According to Intematix CEO, Peter Larsson, “ISL’s current infrastructure provides us with a phosphor capacity increase in excess of 200 metric tons, and an ultimate capacity for 600 metric tons. Add to that an existing process technology that is delivering consistently high-quality phosphors in a high volume and expanding market, and you have the key factors that combine to create an impressive set of core capabilities which will support the next phase of Intematix’ growth.” CFL solutions are the current market leaders for energy efficient replacement lighting that is rapidly displacing traditional incandescent bulbs and is becoming recognized as the best transitional approach for general-purpose lighting applications. LED-based, or solid state, lighting technologies are positioned to begin addressing general-purpose lighting needs, ultimately offering still greater efficiency and product lifetimes. CCFL-based solutions are most typically found providing the backlighting in laptop and flat panel computer displays, as well as in the current generation of LCD televisions.

Intematix co-founder and Display & Lighting Business Unit General Manger, Dr. Yi-Qun Li commented, “When you combine Intematix’ expertise in material innovation with Intematix Suzhou Lighting’s existing high-volume, high-efficiency manufacturing capabilities, it really sets the stage for expansion in several directions at once. The market can expect to see our LED phosphor technology being used for further improvement of ISL’s CFL and CCFL products. At the same time, direct experience with the high-volume CFL lighting and CCFL backlighting markets will fully prepare Intematix to respond as mass adoption takes place for both the LED lighting and LED backlighting technologies.” New phosphor composition design for LED, CFL and CCFL applications, as well as non-phosphor advanced electronic material research and production will continue in the Fremont, California headquarters. Intematix Suzhou Lighting will focus on all types of phosphor production, as well as process engineering and development for those product lines. “ISL has a track-record of technical leadership that has been developed through their extensive experience in the high volume CFL business,” adds Adam Andersen, Intematix’ VP of Operations. “The fact that those capabilities come with such a close-knit, committed, and reliable team, provides a powerful launching point for this next phase of Intematix’ market expansion.” Concluded Larsson, “The addition of ISL to the team is almost a seamless fit with our current worldwide business structure that includes Intematix Fremont and Intematix Technology Center in Taiwan. This expansion of our overall capabilities positions Intematix as the company that can readily meet the rapid rise in demand that is forecasted for phosphors in leading-edge, high-volume lighting applications, without sacrificing any of the production capacity needed for our non-phosphor material offerings.”
