Title: Intematix LEDs Brighten the Highest LEED Rated New Home in America

Fremont, CA – June 14, 2010 – Intematix Corporation, an advanced materials innovator in solid-state lighting, today announced that the company’s LED lighting solutions contributed significantly to making the greenest private residence in America a net-zero energy home. The Fonstad house in Atherton, California has achieved the highest LEED Platinum rating of new homes in the US by earning 115.5 points from the U.S. Green Building Council, a national organization that recognizes achievements in sustainable or "green" construction. As part of their energy efficiency efforts, the Fonstad family chose to light their home with Intematix’s line of energy-efficient Tubulights as well as PAR38, PAR30 and PAR20 LED bulbs that used Intematix components, which garnered 3 points during the LEED certification process.

“When we built our home, we wanted to do something that was good for the environment, and we have proved you can achieve LEED Platinum certification without dramatically increasing your costs or sacrificing on comfort,” said Diego Fonstad, the home’s owner. “Lighting was one area where we were especially dedicated to energy efficiency – lighting usage can represent around 25% of the total energy consumed in a home of this size. We choose Intematix’s LED lights because we knew they would significantly contribute to our ability to make a net-zero energy home while still giving us the beautiful light we wanted.”

Intematix’s Tubulight product used in the Fonstad home is a linear solid-state lighting solution with the form factor compatible with conventional T5 fluorescent lamps. Intematix's ceramic chip array LEDs tout high efficacy and color uniformity, enabling 50-75% energy savings and offering more than 50,000 hours of maintenance-free operation. The company’s reputation in the lighting space was built around providing high-quality phosphor technology for LED lighting, and has grown to include a broad line of proprietary components, modules and solid-state lighting solutions.

“Intematix products represent the best-in-class for solid state lighting solutions, and we are proud to have them showcased in the Fonstad’s impressive home,” said Ilkan Cokgor, Director of Business Development, Lighting Products for Intematix. “We are committed to creating LED lights that offer high efficacy, superior light quality and long lasting reliability. We offer products that are Energy Star® certified and are applicable across many interior and exterior lighting applications.”

The contractor for this project was EcoStruction in Ben Lomond, CA, who specializes in green buildings. In addition to the LED light fixtures, the home incorporates numerous energy efficiency features, starting with the insulated concrete made out of post-consumer polystyrene foam used to construct the walls. Other energy-savers include solar panels used for hot water, radiant floor heating, a water-to-air heat exchanger and a rainwater cistern used to capture runoff for watering the vineyards that surround the home.
